The Countries that do (and don’t) Allow Dual Citizenship

Unlike some of our other posts, this one is going to focused on the raw data. We’ve assembled the most foundational information of our field - a list of the countries that allow for dual citizenship.

A Brief Background
Not all countries allow for dual citizenships. A handful don’t recognize the status and you’re usually forced you to renounce other citizenships once you obtain the new single-country citizenship. For example, this is true with Austria. So if a Swiss national acquires Austrian citizenship, they’d have to give up their Swiss nationality. Further, some countries will only recognize dual citizenships for certain other countries. So it can get nuanced, be confusing, and change periodically.

So for our list here, we’re going to keep it simple and stick with countries that generally allow (or don’t allow) for dual citizenships. As you’d imagine, it’s best to do a little more research on a specific country to understand it the situation properly.
